4th gen newbie.. need advice

hello all
proud owner of an 1987 iroc-z that ive totally disassembled restored and been thru the in and outs of.
well now its time to buy a lt1 93-97 z28 ive been looking at em and found some good deals.( im keeping the iroc btw ) ive seen cars with 107k up to 150k as a starter lookin for a decient car. what should i keep my eyes open for . besides the normal slipping tranny . and bad posi. are the lt1 engines durable up to 150k. i mean when bought my iroc it had 114k and now has 125k with no problems i knew going into it that 305 tpi was a strong durable motor. im just looking for some all around info on this car and who better then the pros here at z28 .com who own them...
thanks guys

I would say that the LT1 is just as durable as any other Chevy 350. Besides the Optispark that has a bad rap, I don't see any reason you should have a problem with an LT1 that has high miles as long as you don't go tearing it apart for a new cam or anything.

But even then there are a few people that have luck doing cam swaps in high mileage LT1s, I did mine at 90k and it hasn't had any issues. And as for the opti- no hiccups out of the stock one at all for me.

My friend had a '96 SS that regularly saw 5500 RPMs and power shifts and the thing never even complained.

I'd say if you're planning on buying one, it's worth it. And compared to the 305 TPI it will feel like a whole new rush as well.

The LT1 is a great engine, and will be a easier swap than a ls. Plus with the aluminum heads you will loose about 40 lbs off the front of the car. I have 190k on my lt1. It runs great, gets good gas mileage, has great power, and should last another 70 or 80k miles before a rebuild. Parts are plentiful, and with vendors for heads, cams and almost everything else, it is cheaper and easier to build a lt that can put out some great hp numbers. Also you can pick up a lt1 for alot less money than a ls. So for my 2 cents worth you can't go wrong. If you need any further info email me and I will be glad to assist.
