42lb inj on stock motor?
42lb inj on stock motor?
Hey ya'll....
i have a set of 42lb injectors that i used on my 355 build...but then i threw some rods as some of you might have heard....
I am in the process of putting the stock engine back in...and i need to know if i can still use the 42lb injectors with the stock engine? anything i should look out for? i know i should get them tuned for...but any other considerations i should look at first?
Thanks in advance!

As long as you tune for them, why not? You DONT want to try to run it more than a few seconds without a base tune though, will wash the cylinder walls.
Don't try to drive the car untuned with the big injectors.

NO WAY. i have a 383 with ported heads, large TB, full exhaust, and a tune and i dont even need 42's. i'm going to run 40's if i can find them or detuned 42's.
the most i'd suggest for you is either a 32 or 34...max. and you'd have to have a beefy motor for 32's even. you'd have to have every bolt on available and a max tune for 32's.

Re: 42lb inj on stock motor?
it's a complete waste of fuel. there's absolutely no need for huge injectors with a stock motor. sure you can decrease duty cycle to cover for the larger flow...but then why not just keep the smaller injectors and sell the bigger ones?.
i guess i'm not understanding what you're wanting injectors for. what exactly are you doing with them?
i'm looking for injectors of that size if you're selling BTW. what brand? PM me if you wanna sell.

If he tells the PCM that he has 42# injectors, it will adjust the pulse widths to provide EXACTLY the amount of fuel that his STOCK engine needs. The only possible downside to grossly oversized injectors is the ability to "turn down" the pulse width short enough to idle smoothly, but numerous people here are running 42# injectors with no idle problems.
Why would he be wasting fuel?
Re: 42lb inj on stock motor?
We want to know because the old injectors are in my car, and my old ones were shot. I had the 42's for my supercharger, and then didn't want them. We want to know if he can get by using the 42's so we don't have to buy a set of stock.
Re: 42lb inj on stock motor?
Yes, the 42s will work fine as long as you set the injector constant inside the computer. They won't dump mass amounts of fuel and they aren't so large that they won't idle correctly.
