Question 4 Bolt Mains Labor?

I had a shop quote me $330 for the labor. The mains will be another $100 on top of that. Is this fairly accurate? It seems way too much for essentially drilling and tapping a few holes. For this price I'm debating just buying a 4 bolt block! Anyone who has had this work done please let me know, thanks!

I paid about that for mine to be done. Seems fair for a good machine shop doing good work.

That's not excessive.

Thats about right. My splayed caps are costing me 300 labor. Dont forget along with that drill and tapping of the extra bolt holes. They also have to do a line bore with the new caps installed. I would say thats where most of the cost comes in.

Sounds about right to me. Although my billet main caps were quite a bit more than $100 bucks.

That sounds about right. I paid 275.00 for my caps.

Yeah, I meant to point this out. It sounds like he is installing a set of OEM (grey iron) 4-bolt caps. That's a better setup than the stock 2-bolters, but I don't think it's worth the labor cost. I just bought a complete set including the front and rear caps. A rear main billet cap is over $200 just for that one cap! That's the most complex of the five. Most people just do the three middle caps and a set runs in the $250-300 range. All five are close to $600.

What about the caps that are advertised as "billet"? Like these ones:

I mean for $80 they obviously aren't close to the quality of other ones. But I dont see how they wouldn't be better than stock. I don't plan on making 1,000hp or anything. Maybe just 700hp someday.
