I am going to buy this Z28 soon and well, you can see it in my signature, does that look drivable on the road or is that pretty much just a drag car. I'm assuming he is meaning that it has 4.56 rear end gears. I won't know forsure until i test drive it but just wanted to hear what you guys had to say first. Thanks

Ryan

I know someone with 4.56s, lots fun, when he gets traction that is. When the tires don't spin he takes off like a bat outta hell.

They'd probably be pretty sweet in an M6, probably turn about the same revs on the highway as an A4 w/ 3.73s.

SWEET guys! Thanks for the input, that makes me feel lot better, and its no fun if your tires don't spin, you guys should know that by now, just giving you guys trouble. I'm selling my 3.8 96 Camaro to get this one and that can spin tires, cant wait to get this 95 Z!!!! I'm pumped.

I thought 3.73's in an A4 was the same as 4.10's in M6. Or are the 4.56's not that much different than the 4.10's?

Something doesn't look right. He told you it runs 12.7 on street tires.... that would require trap speed well over 105mph, maybe closer to 110mph. But with street tires and 4.56's, its gonna max out at under 100mph in 4th gear at 6,000rpm. And there isn't enough done to the car to make power above that rpm. Unless he was shifting to 5th.

As far as street driving, the 4.56's will put you at 2,100rpm in 6th gear at 70mph, so that seems livable.

Is it not a good idea to shift to 5th i guess then, or is it just that most people are staying in 4th all the way to the end of the 1/4 mile? Also, how much horsepower you think the Z i'm gonna buy is putting out, read the signature because that is as much as i know.

I believe that's only true in the 1993s. We have a different auto tranny, the TH700R4 (4L60) with a different first gear, 3.06 if memory serves.

I thought 3.06 was the first gear in all 4L60E's, no matter what year it was. Wasn't it the M6 that dropped to a lower first gear?
