4.10's in an A4...

I have had many people on here tell me that 4.10's are great on a Manual, but do not work well with an automatic. Is that mainly because of gas mileage or what? I have a daily driver Honda, so gas mileage isn't an issue, but I need to know if my car will be fine with the 4.10's. I have BIG plans for next summer(383, heads, cam, etc.) and I am trying to go ahead and get stuff started for that project. You can see my mods in my sig. Will these gears work ok for a A4 with basic bolt-ons?(For right now) And will they also work well with my 383 next summer. Thanks.

.........wow..

.......................you are a wild man.........................

I think with a 4.10 you end up running out of rpm on a a4...

some cars seem to like them some dont. my car slowed down with 4.10's when compared to the 3.70's i normally run.lost 3/10's,was harder to hook off the line (partially due to the steep 1st gear in the auto, and the big conerter i run).
12SECZ has them in his heads/cam car,and he has to hit 4th gear when crossing the finish line with 26"tall tires. 3.70's would probably pick him up due to traction and staying in 3rd.

Generally, the A4 guys go with 3.42's and the M6 go with 4.10's. You could also go 3.73. Another thing you can do is find a rear end out of a M6 car. It'll bolt right into yours without any modifications and you'll have the 3.42's

I'll probably just go with the 3.73's then. Thanks.

LOL...We'll see in a few months.
BTW, the 4.10's worked great in my stock motor car, though...but, I was only running 12.82 and trapping 106 MPH then. With the head/cam combo, I'm on my 6000 RPM shift lite about 75 ft. before the finish line, making a 3-4 shift neccessary.

From my experience the 4.10's with the 3.06 first gear of the 4L60E make first gear pretty much useless unless you're running ET Streets. Second and third where fantastic. Too bad first doesn' t have a first like the TH350, (2.52). That would make 4.10's ideal.

If you stay NA and don't go with a power adder i would go with 3.73s ......Depends on what rpm you turn the motor...

Go with a 3.73. You will be extremely unhappy with a 4.10.

So, you've had 4.10's and didn't like them? I can tell you this much...For a stock motored car, they'll run circles around a 3.73 equipped car. I went 12.82 @ 106 MPH with a completely stock 93,000 mile LT1 with exhaust manifolds. The only mods the car had were 4.10's, ET Streets, 3200 stall, Hypertech chip, Flowmaster exhaust, Moroso CAI, MSD ignition and coil, Splitfire plugs, taylor 8 MM wires, and a throttle body airfoil..Never had a valvecover off it.
The only reason I'm putting 3.73's in it now is because I'm turning too many RPM at 112 MPH.
