396 questions...

Whats up everyone. I've been serving in Iraq for a year and haven't posted in a long time. I had a lot of time to ponder car stuff so I have a couple of questions. First, if I decided to make my car a 396 can I use my stock block already in my car? Secondly, how can I achieve making my engine a 396, possibly with a blower on the best budget possible, my personal accountant(the wife) is only allowing so much for the car fund here. Also, if I was gonna do this I wanna see signifigantly higher numbers for the money. The car already makes over 400 at the wheels with heads/cam. So whats the cheapest, yet safest and best route here? Thanks!

Re: 396 questions...

Stock block can be used.. but be sure to have someone knowledgable doing the work.. My block was hacked up by a "good" shop.. ended up breaking through a water jacket down by the crank.. Only issue w/ a 396 is the heads to support that much cube's.. IMO Stock casting's are too small... but they will get ya by till you can get more money out of your "accountant" lol.. basically 3.875 crank, w/ a either a 5.85 or 6" rod and the applicable piston w/ the correct comp. height and a 4.030 bore will get you your c.i's..

>Hey dude,
Welcome back...
I have the Callies DragonSlayer 396 kit http://www.callies.com/catalog/cranks/dragon.html
got it from Combination Motorsports (when they had absolutely no drama happening with them) I run a Vortech T-trim with AFR heads, ada lot of other go fast goodies. let me tell you she better give you a nice size budget if you want to go stroked and blown, and they used a stock LT1 block that was clearance and bored...
and yeah I know you were tax free, we all were

I am still pondering the 396 idea also, just don't know if it would be a good idea if I intend to go FI with lots of boost.

There shouldn't even be such a thing with engines lol....I've learned from a lot of people's experience, "you get what you pay for" and it is 110 percent true!!

Well how much is the accountant going to give you? That's going to limit you more than anything.

Re: 396 questions...

Sure you can have a budget 396. In the market for a 3.875 Lunati forged racer series crank w/ less than 10K on it? Shoot me a email.
