Post Need help with 396 idea

Alright. I haven't actually done it yet, but I have done a little research in this. Since to make a 396 from a small block envolves a lot of stroke, the block has to be preped properly. This means getting close to water jackets and such, correct? Also, with a 3.875 stroke on the crank and a 6" rod, that would mean that the wrist pin would be "in" the ring section, right? I'm just asking questions because I am thinking it would be a better idea to just go 383. With a 396, what would the life expectancy be without having to touch the motor? I seems like it wouldn't be that long considering the abuse on the caps and bearings as well as the rings. I was thinking maybe 30k miles tops with a 396. And I was thinking 130k+ miles with a 383. It would be a daily driver. But what size pistons should I look at for a 396? What does everyone think about a 396 daily driver car. It would get about at least 500 miles every two weeks on it. I just want to stick to the motor route. No juice or blower. I guess basically what I am asking is would it be better, safer, and economical to go 383 instead of a 396?

as long as they are built correctly both should last over 100k miles.

This would be better suited in LT1 Tech, and you should get some good info/opinions there.

Moving now...

Thanks.
