Angry 383 Stroker Problems Running

Installed a 383 (short block built by a shop). Installed heads, headers, and "new' opti. fired it up and it barely frikin runs!! i can hold the foot pedal all the way to the floor and it wont go past 1100 rpm. The battery checked out ok-does this sound like an opti problem? Im getting pretty frustrated guys, need the car back running and im not stopping tonight till she works. Any thoughts out there????? HELP!!!

sounds like you have the plug wires or something mixed up! check all plugs going to the opti and makje sure their in the right place

the plugs on the left side of the opti go

and on the right side of the opti go..

I would definetely check spark plug wires. Did you install the opti in the correct slot? Check for vacuum leaks too.

Well, I tore it apart last night to remove the distributor. The shop that assembled the short block put the pin into the cam gear that drives the opti. i noticed it wouldnt budge when coming out. got pliers and pulled and pulled finally it came loose. the slot was at the 4:00 position. played around with it for a while and it easily slid back in at the frikin 10:00 position. DAMN! they had driven the drive gear into the cam sproket so my timing was nearly 180' off!!!! sh*theads!! it fired right up after that.
I dont yet have a program to download for it.
S.J.S. > do you have a program you could share with me? I have lt1_edit but dont know enough yet about tuning to much. How does your car run with the 383 and hotcam?

Were in the same boat brother. If you look at my sig., my motor is going to be going in next month. So I can't tell ya anything yet. The strange part is I just sent you a PM from the other Computer Diagnostics/Programming forum. What a coincidence.

Anyway, I'm looking at your problems and I aint happy. But you said you only have the LT-1 edit??? I don't even know what that is. I did get a custom program from Bryan at PCM so hopefully that's good.

Lt1_edit is a software that allows you to program your ecm yourself. there is tunercat out there as well. Check this link
http://www.carputing.com/
hopefully that should tell you a little more than i can on what it is and how to aquire it. You need a cable as well to interface between your ecm and a laptop. SJS-sent you a pm as well.
