383 Stroker Help!?!?!?!

Alright gentlemen, I'm in need of some help here. Long ago..my stock 350 motor went out. I've replaced it with a 383 Stroker. Specs are as follows. Compression 10.6:1 (dished pistons). Clevite rod, main and cam bearings. LT1 Aluminum Heads with 3 angle valve job .600 max lift valve springs. Lightly ported on exhaust side, pocket ported under valve head and gasket matched on the intake side. Custom ground cam, 230/236 duration @.050 with .540 lift on intake and .550 on exhaust. Comp Cams 1.6 Roller tip Rockers. Now the problem is, when we go to turn the car over..it'll sound like it wants to turn over but never does. Keep in mind I know nothing about engines, which is why i'm here. The mechanics working on it say the cams probably to big (engine supports between 4-500 HP). Any one have any thoughts on what it could possibly be??? If you need more info I can round up more. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,
Doug

Got to love 'mechanics'. That's the biggest crock of crap I've ever heard.

Ok, have you checked the basics? A car needs air (which it's probably getting), fuel, spark, and timing. Verify you have all of these and then come back. Or, if you need help figuring out how to verify them, do a search (tons of info on this site). If you can't find what you're looking for, ask in this thread.

Now I'm a little foggy here so bear with me, When you say it acts like it wants to tuen over do you mean it cranks , but doesnt fire, or that it doesnt even crank over?

It its cranking but not firing, I would check like above. Fire, fuel , air. If it has all three then the timing could be wrong.

Couple problems that may be preventing you from getting good answers:

..... tell us the basics of your car - year, model, and trans type as a minimum. Not all years of the LT1 are the same. Why not add a "signature"?

Clarify your terms... as you can see "turn over" and "crank" may not mean the same to everyone.

By cam being to big... I know my shortblock guy wanted me to make sure everything cleared on my motor. I know some 396 guys have to run a small base circle cam. you say it wants to turn over or it trys to start? The way you wrote it sounds like the motor isnt turning over like locked up. Or it just wont start?

Never mind...i appreciate all the help. Turned out to be something with the distributor..whish was "retarding" the timing on the car. Shes up and running now!
Thanks again!

As in someone installed the distributor 120degrees out???

That is not a problem with the distributor but with the installer.
