MAF wont fit between intake elbow and CAI

Ok, I tried doing a few quick searches but didnt find anything so heres my issue.

i ripped my stock intake elbow the other day and ordered a new one shortly after. I recieved it yesterday. its an aluminum elbow from trickflow.

I also have an SLP CAI. The problem i have is that with the aluminum elbow and CAI in there, I dont have enough room for my MAF sensor. It looks like i'd need another good inch for it to be right.

I would take pictures for better understanding of my problem but the home computer is down for the count (thanks mom) and im writing this as best i can on my laptop.

Anyone else encounter this? And how would i go about fixing this? Quick answers would be appreciated

Have you tried putting the MAF on the elbow and then sliding the MAF/Elbow assembly into the CAI? I can't get mine on without putting the MAF on the elbow first either...

I think i tried it but im not too sure. I'll go back and try it out real quick.

Theres not much wiggle room with aluminum and metal parts

EDIT: I tried it again and theres no way it can fit. It looks like theres and inch too much on each side of the MAF. I checked my CAI and its in position where it should be. It almost looks as if i would have to cut down the ends of my CAI and Intake Elbow to get room enough for it too fit.

I had the same problem and try after try with it not fiting i took the hack saw to the elbow. I thought that it wouldnt fit because when i bought my slp intake it was used. I just figured it was off a 93, but since a payed 100 bucks i thought what the hell.

This is what I was thinking I might have to do. The stock elbow barely fit in there after i put in the SLP CAI, good thing it wigged and bent, that was the only way i managed it.

Anyone else have any input before i start cutting away at my $100 elbow and $220 CAI?

I have the Moroso CAI, but when I put my TF elbow on, I had to trim the CAI down to get the MAF on. Simple hack saw job, and 5 minutes later it was all back together.

FirebirdFomula502: I bought my CAI new so that might have made a difference, and the cheaper TrickFlow elbow was about $76. I bought the one that came with the connecting hoses (for TB to elbow and elbow to MAF) and 4 hose clamps.

A Walker: I figured on cutting down on the CAI. The elbow is forged and I dont want to risk it cracking and breaking after I cut it.

I bought a CRT off ebay and fought with it for over an hour on Sunday and ended up putting the stock elbow back on. I have the SLP CAI which I bought new. I tried several things short of taking out a hacksaw and finally just considered it a waste of money as I could not get it to fit. Sounds like an elbow of any brand won't fit with a SLP CAI.

I'd put the stock one back on but its ripped pretty bad and i dont want to risk it falling apart and getting sucked into the engine.

I notcied when i first got the CAI that it seemed a bit longer then stock. It seems that the best plan is to shorten my CAI, I'm just hoping that i'll have enough room before it gets to where the 2 tubes are welded in.

So far, I sawed off about 3/8th off the CAI. I'm still wrestling with it and the fact that its pitch black outside isnt helping either.

This is for me thinking this was a 5 minute project

Well, I'd like to thank you guys for all the input. I ended up taking a little off the CAI, and a little off the elbow. Now it fits like a glove and looks good too
