Im building a 383 stroker im looking for a good timing chain if anyone can let me know where to get a good chain for a reasonable price it would be appreciated

 

you going to run an electric water pump?

if you do you could run a double roller for a factory roller cam motor....other than that you are somewhat limited with the LT1 stuff

A stock chain is not a double roller. I am a little confused about the question? The stock timing set also runs the water pump. If you convert to an electrc WP you can use a generic SBC type timing set for a roller cam. Most double roller sets are sufficiently wide that some clearancing of the timing cover is needed.

You'll find that lots of folks stick with the stock timing set as they are good pieces...I ran mine for 9 years, freshened the heads, changed the cam and just replaced the older stocker with a new one, and I also run an EWP...

The stock timing chains are pretty decent. To run a better chain if you are running an electric WP I like to use the big link single roller chains - often used on the medium duty pickup trucks.

 

Check out some of the supporting vendors. A few of them carry that stuff for decent prices.

 

I disagree on the comments about the stock chain.
I replaced mine with 13k miles ....lot of slop in the chain.
At the time the motor had never been over 5,800.

Ya can use the LT4 HD chain and get the oversized crank sprocket to take out the slop in the chain.
The are good roller chain's, and according to Cloyes they are AS strong or stronger than the old double roller.
Call Cloyes and get the proper part numbers.

 

Cloyes double roller with a little grind on the cover.
LT4 HD (mentioned above) holds well.
