383 Stroker Heads - Ported Stock or Aftermarket Castings?
Look for an old member named quickshotkimber
Look at some of the post of his from a long time ago.........funny how much more these heads flow now days and noone is still running those old numbers
This is interesting too......https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...uickshotkimber

Hell my highest pull was 438rwhp as it sits now.
Look at quickshot and what he ran......I don't race dyno's since I don't use them at all like you do.
We will see what you run......I'm sure it will be dissapointing like the rest of the stuff I see around here.
Gary drove that car 2 hours, and ran it at richmond dragway with a 10 bolt in it.....I think he was cutting 1.8 60's and running in the 11's....For what that car was I say it was very impressive........guys in coupes can hardly keep up with that 4 years later.
I'm getting tired of every post you have you dyno numbers in it too....... Lay down a number before you spout off too much. Don't get bent out of shape......I'm just saying I dynoed a car and made 377 rwhp yet it ran 9.70's....so whatever
Do you know the DA that pass was made in?
The car weight?
452RWHP in a heavy convertable are inline with 120 MPH
FYI my first passes at 3800lbs were 120 traps with 463 RWHP.
IF a frog had wings...........
If my cars raceweight was 3500lbs I would run 10.70's...but it aint. And it dont.
All I got to say is pull it out in the street, and see what 463rwhp looks like in a 3800lb car from a stoplight.....dyno sheets mean **** at the light when it turns green. You may have close to the same rwhp in a lighter car, but from a stoplight I am gonna tear you a new one.
That six speed and 10 bolt look good on a dyno, I will show you what a 4L60E, a 9 inch, stall converter looks like on the street.
I get so tired of this "My car dynoed this that and the other thing" WHatever.
I raced a guy with a six speed that has 560 RWHP on the motor....I left him so bad from the stoplight he had to send out the National Guard to find me.

If you want to point out fast cars from Ai.....look at rick's car. Look at randy's car.....everytime he makes a post he post a new best ( RJE)
If my car had a 870" fulton motor with a bunch of gas on it..........

Unless you have that time slip YOUR NOTHING
When I see dyno numbers I think "Gee..thats pretty neat" Then I see track numbers and I think "Hot damn that car is fast!". Track is what matters ABA383 definately knows what I'm talking about.
On topic, looks like I'm going with good ole LT4 castings. I got a set of LT4 heads for a decent deal, so I'll give them a shot. I'm looking to get those ported with some 2.02/1.60 valves. Now I just need an intake
Good posts guys.

Spend that money towards welding and porting the LT4 intake.
I am really kind of lost as to why you have chosen to bypass some of the very popular and proven packages available with ported stock heads.
Ai 200 cc and the LE3/4 deal is pretty impressive for what they cost and are comparable to what an LT4 package is capable of with less money

You guys assume alot.
I dont expect alot of people to like what I do with my car. I have lots of people saying I'll never need a 9", never need a 4L80, a spool is too much, etc, etc. But being different and trying new things is how we learn. I'd rather not just "fall in line" and get the same thing everyone else is running. I'm just not that way. Same thing in diesels, I'm using turbo's people have never ran and say wont work, but you should see their faces when I actually pull the **** off
Now, I dont see why I should pay for 2.00/156 valves when 2.02/1.60 valves are going to run me about the same. The heads are bare castings
Popular and proven, yes they are...and if I didnt get such a good deal on the heads I probably would, but I couldnt pass them up. Plus the LT4 setup is going to yeild better numbers for only a bucks more than having my stockers ported. So why not?
We'll see how everything pans out, but I do appriciate everyones positive input.

I'd have to agree about staying with the stock valve on the LT4's
They are lightweight nice valves.
I have had some personal setbacks this year that have prevented me from
finishing the setup on my car, but it is a combo that I am confident in and
I have done my research on.
Keep in mind that I did get a good deal on new LT4 heads a few years ago.
Would I have done the same thing if I spent my money today, maybe.....
I really don't regret it.
I think TF's are good, but I'm not totally convinced that they are as cost effective
as a well ported stocker.
Now I'll ramble a bit......
If I could start all over again, I would have built a stock crank
forged rod/piston, high 11.x compression ratio, 22x, 23x cam,
ported stock intake, stock throttle body(TRY IT FIRST).
I would also have stayed with my stalled auto at least until I
blew it up, rather than immediately swapping to a T56.
Had I done that, it would be a mild street car that kicks ***
at the strip, and saved a few bucks along the way.

Depends on how heavy it is. Gary claimed it weighed 3750 or somewhere in that area. It's in the thread. With his weight claim I gave a prediction of what I thought it should run and it didn't make a whole lot of people very happy. Especially when I challenged to run it in my car which was making around 80rwhp less just to see where I would stand against a 452rwhp car (heated exchange on a different board which lead to a confrontation between Joe and I, but that's a different story...). I don't believe for a second it made that much and show a video in that very thread as to why.
This is the weekend your going to the track to back up your dyno #s, is it not? I hope so. Enough with the dyno talk already.

I got a dyno sheet from Ed Wrights dyno, I got an ET slip from Hattiesbrg Miss.

Man do you guys get worked up.
I'd just like to add aside from the dyno's and the trap speeds jibber-jabber that I could only wish to have some of the setups that you guys have, sort of "pipe dreams" you could say. If only the wife would agree with me.
Hats off to you guys, and speeddemon I hope to see some good trap speeds!

Gary= M6
I pray to Jesus this doesn't turn into one of those, "Well, it takes 500rwhp to go 119mph through the traps..." type of retarded arguments.
You have a M6 w/ that kind of power you are bound to go faster than 120 w/ that race weight.
I can't be too sure you made that kind of power either dare I say. I too have been on Ed Wright's dyno for a dyno tune. I too have a dyno sheet which states I made 370rwhp. From what I understand he used that tune (maybe still does) to tune other cars w/ a similar combo. Lo and behold I ran 110mph through the traps. When I actually did have a true 370rwhp I ran 115. Interesting...

...and FWIW James' (Quickshotkimber) car was bad *** then and now...
