383 solid roller combo
Whatever you do, don't skimp on the lifters. I have a 396 SR with Isky Red Zones. They weren't cheap, but they were made for street use w/ the extra oiling holes for the roller bearings. Problem is you will loose oil pressure and it will be noticeable if you use a standard volume oil pump.
This is the problem I'm going through right now. I have some Smith Brothers custom chromoly 5/16 oil restricting pushrods (6.150 in length/ .083 wall) where the oiling hole is half the size (.040) of standard which will hopefully bring my pressure back up. It's okay now, but is too close to that 10psi/1000rpm rule of thumb for my comfort. Hopefully I'll be getting these things in the engine w/in the next couple of weeks and finally get to the dyno for a tune.
As far as hp... I've read where people are making anywhere from 450 to 470rwhp with over 400ft lbs of torque and running in the range of the 11's between the low to high 120's...

The power number you quote, are with what size heads/cams?
Thanks for the great info.
That all sounds good. Right now I have the comp endura lifters with that cam in my carbed 383 and I dont have oil pressure issues, but i don't think those lifters have the same provisioning for the oiling.
