383 Lt4?

Well, if i just got the LT4 kit and the 383 stroker would that all be in compliance?

besides axel strenth and a few other things, this would work correct?

would i need new injectors at around 450 hp? anything else i might need to bolster before doing such a mod?

If money isnt a problem, get afr heads and then have them worked over by a competant porter (like Lloyd). On a 383 the hotcam is going to be holding you back, you're going to want something bigger. You will want to upgrade injectors as well.

you wouldn't want to get the lt4 kit then go buy some other heads. You would get more out of a 383 if you went with some afr heads like you said and then got a custom ground cam. You need to get some springs and rr's to compliment the cam. There is a lot more to it then just buying two seperate kits and bolting them together.

Re: 383 Lt4?

this is why i am asking, i want to know what is suggested, are the AFR heads for LT1 any worse after being ported then the LT4 AFR Heads?

keep in mind i want to keep it smog legal here in Cali

I want a setup that will give a good plenty of power without taxing the engine much and lessoning its life. (within reason, almost all mods will lower the lifetime, but some might help contribute to a prolonged life)

Have you looked into llyod elliot's packages? www.eportworks.com His LE2 or LE3 package would work pretty good with a 383. You should e-mail him some questions and he can give you some good advice.

Re: 383 Lt4?

They are not BAD porters, just not as good as a few proven guys here on LT1 heads, AFR does know their heads though so if you went with their hand porting you would see some nice gains, But the guys here are very proven.

What you need to do is set down and figure out what kind of power you want to make and then choose according to that, I know that California emmissions will limit you on alot of stuff, but there are plenty of people that are running some nice combos there.

Re: 383 Lt4?

what are the differences between the LT1 style and LT4 style AFR heads?

or after being ported & polished do they flow the same?

Re: 383 Lt4?

If they are designated LT4 they have the intake face ready to accept an LT4 intake manifold.

The old AFR 190s and 195s were actually identical ports , but the casting was different because the 190 was for LT1 intake and the 195 was for the LT4 intake. They flowed very close to each other.

If you plan on using different heads, on a 383LT4 you might as well not build a LT4. Spend the extra $2000 on some ported heads and a bigger cam.

The Lt4 cam is nice and all. I put it in my camaro, cause it was free and I had my engine apart anyway, but the gains aren't that great

As for injectors, you don't need to go overkill. SVO injectors will do nicely. just remember that if you go with them, they are ford injectors and require a different calculation to make op for the difference in fuel pressure.
