383 LT1 stroker kit questions please...
383 LT1 stroker kit questions please...
Thinking about doing up my LT1 with a 383 kit. Who out there has some fairly inexpensive stroker kits that are also a pretty good quality kit? Will probably do most of the work myself. Would like to push the 500hp/500tq zone. Is it possible with a 383 kit? Was also thinking about a low compression 383 turbo setup. Although it would take a little more effort and $$ to set up, it would definitly meet my hp/tq goals i'm sure. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

500/500 at the crank is very easily attained.
I went with the eagle kit with KB pistons, I havent had any problems with the set-up, it balanced really easily, I would like a little more head flow and a little better cam. Spend your money on the heads and get a custom cam to complement.
I am running the 18CC dish KB pistons, 5.7 eagle SIR rods, and the cast steel Eagle crank. The crank balanced very easily and the rods were pretty close so only minimal balancing amongst the rods was required, he used only one peice of mallory to balanc the crank with a stock typw flexplate and dampener.
The only real thing I would change about my set-up is forged pistons, AFR 210s or 220s , and a nice custom cam.
With a 3750 # car I have run 11.92 @ 115.4, several passes over 115. mph.
My set-up is mild in comparrisson to alot, and there is still more power left on the table as I'm still using a mail order tune.

Re: 383 LT1 stroker kit questions please...
I'm looking for at least 500/500 at the rear wheels and not just the flywheel. I'm running 400hp/490tq at the rears now with a 150hp dry nitrous kit. Wouldn't mind dabbling in the turbo relm, but if I could pull 500/500 at the rears with a high compression 383, then I could always convert my dry kit to a wet kit and spray it at the track too. Maybe a 150 or 200 shot. I agree on the heads and cam. I can do my own tuning cause I have TunerCat. How are the AFR LT1 stroker heads? Know anything about them? As far as cams go, should I just go with a custom through Comp cams? Thanks again for the help.

For 500/500 N/A at the wheels you'll need more than what I mentioned earlier, you'll definately need a full forged bottom end, and a top quality machinist to do the work.
The AFR heads are on the right track you'll want to look at the 227 RRs and at least the 220 AFRs have them ported by a competant SBC porter. Cam Motions does good custom grinds, so do several guys on this site, do a search for how to contact them.
