There's lot of cam info here. It's a little unfair to ask Bret because cam design is one of the things he does for a living. If you do a search you will find a lot of threads about cams.

My point in referring him to Bret was to let him know that Bret knows LT1s and is worth the cost of his services. Bret's knowledge isn't free, but it's worth it and he'll work with you to get the performance you want out of the car.

 

I run 116 through the traps in a 3750 # T/A with a 383 10.5 :1 compression and a GM 847 cam, can drive it anywhere with A/C powersteering, powerbrakes full interior etc.

 

i don''t want to steel this thread but i have to ask how much HP are u guys getting from the383 stroker?!?

the reason i'm asking is that i just drop my engine to a machine shop 10 minutes ago for a 383 rebuild and i'm wondering how much HP to expect.

i got all forged bottem end with 4-bolt main and my compression is 11.5:1 after decking the block.

 

Not looking for hand outs really. If I have to pay someone for some tech then I will. I just want to do it right the first time and not have a ton of parts that cost a fortune laying around the shop like I do now from my earlier motor building adventures. Like the 14-71 MooneyHam that I blew the bottom end out of a 2 bolt 327 with. I've done some pretty stupid and very expensive mistakes in my day. I mean, now that I look back at it, who the hell would put a huge roots blower on a stock bottom end? A cast 2 bolt at that????

 

A 383 with a decent cam and 11.5 to 1 compression with good heads should easily make over 420 RWHP, if it doesnt then it needs something. The torque is what you should really pay attention to though. It will be alot and flat if built right. Anyone can throw a bunch of parts at a car, but you have to make them work together.

 

the block will be decked and blue printed. i have edelbrock heads ( ported). lt4 intake ported and matched to the heads.cc 306. 58mm TB. shorty headers. and other bolts on.

the guy in the machine shop told me to expect 500+ RWHP but i think it will be less. what do u guys think?!?!

 

I'll say 430 RWHP if tuned right, You should top that 430 in torque pretty easily. The edelbrock heads may actually hurt you unless they are opened up quite a bit.

 

i did a valve job on the heads. i have 2.02cc intake insted of 1.94cc. they are ported to maximize the the 383 kit. my concern it the tranny. i have an automatic with a 2800 stall. i hope it doesn't blow up on me.

 

I'm using a rebuilt stock tranny with a vigilantee 3000 and its been together 2 years, I don't even have a shift kit in it.

 

i was about to ask u about the shift kit. my trany is a stock replacment for gm with less than 2,000 miles on it. when i took it for converter installation the change the oil pressure or somthing like that and now it snaps ur neck when it shift into second. will it help if i install a shift kit ?!?!

 

A reputable tranny guy here on site , says that shiftkits are a waste of time, I see his reasoning as well, they make the shift harsher , but do not beef the parts. He recomends having the shift circuits modified and proper parts added when the tranny is rebuilt (thats what I'm going to do anyway)

 

I have a 383 stroker daily driver, and i get 6mph, yes 6. its horible, work is about 10 minutes away, school is like 5 minutes, I put at least 150 dollars a week on gas.

 

At 6mpg I hope you are putting down well over 500rwhp NA. Otherwise, something is dead wrong or you need to try driving like a civil human every now and then

With my 383, I get about 16 in the city, and upto 20 on the highway. The worst I have gotten thus far was 13, and I thought that was bad.
