383 guys!!! Need advice

383 guys!!! Need advice

Im havin a little trouble finding my powerband...I have a 383 with a CC 306, 2.00/1.56 valves,p/p heads,3200 Midwest (2.5 str), and 3:73's...Any ideas??? my shift points are 1-2 6200, 2-3 6400, and my redline is 6700 rpm...Anymore questions, let me know.

CC306 likes to spin... so with that, your shift points are too low. I'd say shift somewhere around 6500-6700. Only a dyno will tell you for sure. Shift 200-300 AFTER peak HP My cam (see sig) peaks at 6200 and I shift at 6400 and it's a small cam than the 306.

I think he's got an auto, but yeah what juiced said. Stock head guys are shifting a lot higher than that, like 6800

all your shift points, whereever they may be should be (about) the same. If anything, first gear should pull longer, not shorter

gear ratios:
3.06:1
1.62:1
1:1


3.06/1.62= 1.88
1.62/1.00= 1.62

My 383 was still pulling 532 fwhp at 7400 rpm. You need to dyno your car too see exactly what your shift points should be.

You should set your shift points 200 rpm past peak power with your A4. Also both the shift RPM and shift MPH need to be meet for the tranny to shift at WOT.
