Re: 383 down on power

I've had my intake off several times to mess around inside my motor and each time i've had it off some ports were oily and others werent. Each time i had the intake off different ones would end up oily while others would end up clean again. This has me wondering about my intake, but wouldn't you have some major signs of a vaccum leak, such as low iac counts, or other things.

A little oil is normal because of the PCV system, but like this case whre one whole side is clean and the other is oily something evidently is weird.

Yeah i know some oil gets in the motor, but it seems odd that each time i pull the intake some ports are spotless while others aren't and every time i yanked the intake different ports were dirty while others were spotless. My heads were milled and my block was decked to. I just wonder if this might be a problem for me.

If you keep with stock head gaskets.. whats the most you can mill heads before the intake needs to be milled?

according to the "how to rebuild an LT1/LT4" book, you can mill up to .019 of the combustion deck before having to do any type of machine work. regardless of where the material comes from. wether it be the heads, head gasket, or the block. so if you kept stock gaskets, you can mill the heads up to .019 and be okay.

Re: 383 down on power

I had the car scanned for codes today. heres what we found:

43 ESC Module or sensor circuit problem
33 MAP sensor or circuit too high

currently searching the site and found the knock sensor test on shoebox's site. still lookin for info on 33 MAP sensor problem.

any suggestions?

Re: 383 down on power

well I went out and disconnected the MAP sensor then drove it. The car ran ALOT smoother. it didnt hesitate, buck, or spit. it ran very well all the way up to 7000. before after about 6400 rpm up to 7000 it would just run terrible. under that at WOT is the only time it seemed to clean itself up. the only problem is that after about 15 minutes of driving and after a long period of deceleration the same symptoms came back. it bucked, didn't want to idle. just like before. after the car was shut off and restarted it idled just fine but I didn't drive it to see how it ran.

Re: 383 down on power

i'm getting the same "map high" code with my setup as well. from what ive been reading, its not uncommon to get this code with a bigger cam. my car idles at about 68-70kpa. as soon as the code gets thrown, the car will act real crazy like for about 30 seconds afterward. the code only gets thrown, for the most part, when slowing down to a stop. i'm not sure whats going on with the car after the code is thrown. thats the part that annoys me. kind of a sputtering thing going on. especially in high rpm's. i'm going to try replacing the connector that plugs into the map sensor. mine seems to be running a little ragged and probably isnt helping things. i have no clue on how to fix this either. i have no vacuum leaks. a new map sensor. intake is fixed and looking good. i wonder if we can fix the problem with some tuning?
