The difference in price isnt worth the little power gain going to a 396. Do a search, has been disccused before.
Re: 383 or 396?
There is no difference in price between the two despite what some people/shops say.
If you are not reving over 7000ish rpms, go 396. I would only do a 383 if it was a forced induction setup since there is no need for those extra cubes.
Just my opinion

13CID isn't worth the extra machine work that has to be done to the block to clear everything and there is a good chance of breaking into the water jacket while having enough clearance ground in it.

Re: 383 or 396?
The 383 is the best all-round stroker combo for the reasons stated. Especially for a blower app where you need the additional compression height to allow fitting a correct piston. There are some dynmatie 396's out there, but it not really worth the trouble, IMHO.

Re: 383 or 396?
It all depends on the rod you use. A rod like the Lunati ProMod or Oliver forged have a much more "profiled" big end than something like an Eagle H-beam. An Oliver forged/billet rod in a 396ci motor will require less clearencing than an Eagle H-beam in a 383.
Parts wise, there is no cost difference.
Whatever you decide, make your decision based only on the advice from guys that actually own or build these motors....there is alot of internet Sonny Leonard's out there
Either way, a 383 is always more fun than a 350/355

The Oliver rods are about 1200 dollars and heavy.
The Probe or Manley 4340 Forged are the best choice if ya ain't going over 7-800FWHP and the cost is about 600 dollars.
They will require a bunch of clearancing as compared to a 383 with the same rod. The last two 383's I built didn't even need to cut the rails and VERY little off of the cyl's.

buy my forged 383 pistons and build your own kit..
Re: 383 or 396?
I’d go the 396 over the 383, it cost the same either way, the 396 will build more torque and that’s what you want. You have to clearance the block for a 3.75” stroke, whats 0.10” more? Not much and you clearance them in the same spots.
