How much is a 396 or 383 rebuild kit? Where can I find one? How would it be installed.

 

1-$2000.00+ for good forged

2-Probe Ind,Eagle,Scat

3-Very carefully built or machined by a responsible machine shop that does it all the time.NOT shade tree.There are things to be done clearance,balance and fit's that have to be done RIGHT or it won't last.Most people don't need the training to have to have pull the engine time after time--PITA

Parts selection is another big thing-- cam,oil pan and pump,heads,ect.ect.

 

I never have understood this debate, 383 vs 396.

FWIW, my smaller 383 puts 550hp to the rear wheels with no power adders. (And before 30 people ask me how I got there... please do a search)

So how much power were you guys planning to make again?? And do you really think that building a 383 instead of the slightly more costly 396 is gonna hold you back???

the 383s seem to live longer then the 396s too. ive only seen about 50K miles out of 396s before they need a freshening. the 383s seem to go 100+K miles. i think it has to do with the side load as well as short pistons (piston rocking) in the 396s.
