355 vs. 383
Re: 355 vs. 383
Well if your talking about a 383 bottom end with stock LT1 heads and cam VS a stock displacement LT4 heads/cam combo then I would have to go with the LT4 setup. This is because the stock LT1 heads and cam dont move enough air to take advantage of the 383 bottom end and would actually be a bad bottle neck. LT4 350 will spank a 383 with untouched LT1 heads and stock cam.

Re: 355 vs. 383
I am trying to chase down a problem that could be anything from a bad opti to a burned piston.Just figuring out my options for the worst case.I know alot
of people don`t seem to like the" hot cam" set up,but it seems like a good deal, and the car has to pass emissions.

Re: 355 vs. 383
I would agree there if you have to repair the bottomend then I would do a stroker even if the stock heads have to go on it. As a modification alone though I would never suggest such a thing, matter of fact I am actually looking to go all out on heads and put them on a stock bottom with a matching cam and then later build a stroker to put under those heads, will have to buy another cam at that time but I know that going in.
Re: 355 vs. 383
With the stock induction (heads, and cam) and compression the same the 383 compared to a 350 with the same top would make a big flat torque curve that peaked sooner and made about 3 to 5 percent more peak HP.
Open the heads and valvetiming up to match and the sky is the limit.
