355 pistons
355 pistons
what are some good forged pistons I can get for a 355 build up? I am putting my p&p heads and lt4 hotcam kit on this motor and probably spraying 150 shot or less. Also as far as bearings and rings go, what does everybody reccommend? Will the pistons come with the rings?
Re: 355 pistons
they are in a built 355 with splayed 4 bolt caps, arp bolts everywhere and the list above...then custom ground cam from futural motorsports, fully ported nutek heads, holley 58mm tb, 36# injectors, longtubes, true duals, pretty much every bolt on possbile...should fire it up in 2 weeks!
Re: 355 pistons
sweet...thanks man. You have helped me out a lot. You have done exactly what i'm trying to do only on a higher level. I will probably have many more questions for you.
Re: 355 pistons
Ross is one of the few companies I found while collecting my parts that actually make a flat top nitrous piston. Most companies will tell you you'll be OK "Up to 150 shot". I plan on spraying a little more, so I did an enormous amount of research. I got my set at machine shop cost, but most anyone can get a set for $600. The part number is 90465 (for a 6" rod 355). The important difference of a nitrous piston is how far the top ring is from the crown, and the silicone content.
I will forewarn you the 2256 Speed Pro pistons are NOT recommended for nitrous use! These are considered to be a "budget" forged piston, but they pale in comparison to a quality piston.
As another piece of information, JE only makes a domed nitrous piston, and doesn't recommend any of their SRP pistons for anything over 150 shot, because of their high silicone content.
I just went through all this...I've got piles of research information about pistons for nitrous use. Ross was the only one that fit my needs.

Talk to Brian, he's very helpful. Look into some SRP's or Probes, those are a good piston for the price/quality ratio. Whoever is doing your building and machine work make sure they know the engine is being built for Nitrous so they can put a little extra gap in the top ring and hone the cylinders as necessary.
Bearings, I went with Kings Alecular bearings as I've heard MANY great things about them. There's also Federal Mogul and Clevite. The rings may or may not come with your pistons, but you can easily buy them seperately. Speed Pro Plasma Moly's will run you around $100. I know the SRP catalog lists the reccomended rings for the pistons.
