355-383 machine work

If I was to buy a block that was machined for a 383 can I still use it for a 355? Do they bore the mains for a 383? I know the block gets notched for clearance....anything else that gets special attention?

For a 383 they bore the cylinders .030 over same as a 355 so yes you could. The only thing that they do to the block for a 383 is bore the cylinders .030 and notch the sides. The mains are left alone. If you are using a 400 crank (instead of a aftermarket 383 crank) then the turn the crank down to 350 main specs.

If you were using a 400 crank in an LT1, you would also need an adaptor for the rear main seal.

Yeah thats true I was just throwing that in as when you would need machine work that would involve the mains.
