350 383 externally balanced on an LT1

It's for my friends LT1.

The kit was ordered for a 350 1 main seal and it's externally balanced and has the damper and the flywheel with it. So will it work fine on an LT1 with the 350 dumper that came with the kit?

Thanks.

Does the new damper have the grooves for the serpentine belt? Is it the same diameter as the stock LT1 damper? Does it project from the nose of the crank the same amount as the stock damper? If so, you can use the damper that came with the engine kit. If not, you'll have to change it, and then you have to make sure the one you are removing is neutral balanced, like the stock LT1 damper you are replacing it with.

Made this mistake on my first one also.. The damper that came with the externally balenced kit I bought didn't clear the distributor, nor did it have grooves for the belt. Had to get the front half neutral balenced (cost a decent amount b/c of the metal) and bought a fluidampr.

That rotating assembly will NOT work on an LT1. Summit does have the LT1 assemblies, though.

There are rotating assemblies on E-bay quite a bit cheaper though. Summit is not usually the cheapest. I've had good service from them though.

The dude already has the kit in his garage, so buying a new one is out of the question. ‎From what I understand 350 and LT1 internals are the same so why wouldn’t it work ‎with an LT1

if its internally balenced it should work fine.. only thing you may need to get extra is another balencer. I went with the fluidampr from summit, or jegs.. Also Make sure the flexplate is the same size as the original and you should be good to go.

Re: 350 383 externally balanced on an LT1

They actually have enough differences to where that rotating assembly won't work. I don't know if it has to do with the reverse cooling.

However if you look closely at the stroker kits when they are listed you will see one of two things:

1. The part will state " does not work with LT1, LT4 or LS1"

2. The part will say "for LT1, LT4 motors"

I'm not mechanically inclined enough to know the reasons but trust me, I have researched these kits for a few months and a GEN1 SBC kit will NOT work with the LT1. Nor will most other parts without extensive modifying. The heads are a good example.

With the link you listed click on "applications"

The next page under the notes section it says "will not fit LT1 or LT4 engines"

Best thing to do is to take it to an engine builder and let them see it. I don't remember the part number on the kit I bought, Jerryta is right it does say its not for the lt1 ls1 etc, but I doubt the kit I had was suppose to be for the lt1 mainly b/c it was externally balenced.
