Ok people have told me when there behund my car and a get on it hard black smoke comes out. It also has started backfiring alot. My egr recently messed up and I thought that was what was causing it but I took it off and put block off plates on and it still does it. What is causing this?

It'll be black when you're running rich as hell, mine does it too, i've been told from quite a few people my car shoots like flames kinda, not full blown out flame but it glows white when i let off the gas. Or, if its like diesel black smoke you might be needing a new opti.

Its got exhaust, no cat, and cold air. And yeah it shoots a flame sometimes and people say it smells like gas sometimes. So the fuel is not getting burt completely but how do I check to see what could be wrong?

 

If it has an exhaust leak,that sucks air it will fire off the unburnt fuel in the pipe.

Ya need to put it on a scanner to find out why it's rich,before ya replace a lot of stuff that don't need replacing.

 

Its not setting a SES light tho.

 

That's not something that will set a code.

 

flames, LOL. I shoot 3 foot flames, at least, out of my exhaust when I get on it. But then again my engine is frankenstein. The thing shouldnt be alive but it is.
