3200-3400 stahl too much for LT1???
I was looking to get around a 2800. But I found one with a higher stahl speed at a pretty good price. I've heard LT1's have computer problems or something if the stahl is too high. Is this true, and will the higher speed I mentioned be something that would affect me?
With a stock motor like yours, the 2800 is perfect and puts you right in the powerband where you want it. A higher stall than that would require more mods to justify in my opinion, and not quite as user-friendly on the street.
I've heard of this problem also, but I think it can be fixed by reworking the computer, I think many choose PCMFORLESS, might want to call him and see if he can, since he does such great work at such a low price. As the other guy said 2800 is perfect for the street, the higher you have the more mushy the throttle response will be. If you gun it all the time, it probably won't be so bad, sicne you won't notice it as much. Also you put more heat in the trans, and are going to get worse gas mileage. I would get a trans cooler, this will help keep it working well for many miles, without one you could shorten the lifespan
u WILL have problems with ANY stall over 3500 in a OBD1 LT1 car!!!! there is NO WAY around it! people have claimed to have fixed it but, it isnt possible. the OBD1 is too slow to shift under WOT with a high stall converter. i would go with a 3200 stall if i were u. it will be good now and better as u add things to your car. if u are going to do it, do it right and get a VIG, they are the best around. i wish i would have known that before i bought my Coan. there is a night and day difference in my stall and my buddies VIG stall.
