it's not suggested but i run 315s on my 9.5 zr1s. my wheels have a 38mm offset so the tires come right to the fenders, it a good look.

What tire fits on which rim varies by manufacturer, and by specific models within that manufacturer's lines. No tire manufacture that I can find recommends a 315/35-17 be mounted on anything narrower than a 10" rim.

From the Tire Rack specs, for minimum rim width:

11.0" minimum - BFG DR, GY Supercar
10.5" minimum - BFG KD, Michelin, Yokohama
10.0" minimum - Sumitomo, GY GS-C, Dunlop

Using a tire on too narrow a rim will increase sidewall bulge, increase sidewall flex and cause excessive heat and structural damage. Might not be immediately evident, but why take a chance?

Is it possible to fit it? Sure. Should you fit it? You decide.

315 BFG DR on 11" wheel - 275 GS-C on 9.5" wheel

One of my friends has a 315 Nitto 555r on a 9.5 ZR1 rim and looks fine. No buldge what so ever, and he has hand them for 6 months atleast without problems. He ran a 12.95 with them.

The contact patch will be, if anything, smaller than a 275...

Just becasue we CAN do a thing, does not necisseraly mean we SHOULD do a thing.

A few years ago I ran a pair of 315's on my stock vette wheels. It looked cool from the rear, but from the side it obviously didn't fit. The car launched fairly well, but sucked in a corner. I wouldn't do it again. If you want a bigger tire I'd get a 285 or bigger rims.

Exclamation

Bigger is not better. If you just want a meaty tire than yeah, I bet you could squeeze a 315 on there.. you might have trouble finding a shop that will do it though.

IF you care at all about your safety, the longevity of the tire, traction (straightline or cornering) then you won't put a tire that wide on a 9.5 rim... that just ain't smart. The tire will cup leaving only the outside and inside edges contacting the pavement, thus you have essentially a narrower tire than the stocker and really poor traction.. plus the tire won't last very long like that and, if you've looked at prices, you know a 315 ain't cheap

If you're looking for traction then the width of the tire is not what's important.. it's the sidewall height and the compound and then the width IMO... meaning use some 15 or 16 inch rims and some drag radials and that'll solve your traction problems a lot faster than super wide tires.
