Imagine driving a manual transmission car in 1st gear @ 1000-1200 rpm. Then, tap the gas a few times very quickly and feel the car lunge forward and back a few times. Nothing that violent (that I've experienced), but you get the idea. The car will buck and kick.

OK, I do have the M6. So if i get this then you mean under acceleration the the car will surge occasionally instead of ramping up smoothly? What has the cam to do with this? How to prevent this?

good tuning is the best advice i have for you. that and gears. i have used my car as a daily driver (back before my truck) and it was definitely tollerable. but then again, i had the tuning and the gears setup from the beginning to make it more enjoyable. you just got to understand that if you want to start investing money into making it faster, its gonna cost you.

Brian,

The surge occurs during cruising speed. For me it was generally occurring under 2100rpm, below 50mph, in between 35-60Kpa (engine load).

Re: 306 cam users?

My tune must be pretty close then. Because I cruise down the highway at 75mph turning 1650rpm with zero surge. Befor the tune I couldnt use 6th gear at all

Are the Lloyd Elliot packages a cam AND a head set sent to you , or does he just port your stock heads that you send in?! Seems pricey if he just ports your stockers and hands you a cam, thanks ---

Re: 306 cam users?

The cc306 is going to be lopey on a stock set of heads and manifolds and is a big cam. If you have stock heads etc. cc305 would've been a better choice. Like I had the problem of my engine basically choking off my cc306 so I got ported heads/intake/tb and LT's and it ran fine, little lope could be heard. Now I went to a 388 w/ cc468 which is a good cam for my setup, cam is .584/.579 w/ stock rockers and I'm running 1.6's. Now I just need more fuel so otherwise the cam isnt good for stock applications. A tune may help alittle.

Re: 306 cam users?

I have had my CC306 for four years now and would buy it again tomorrow. Makes plenty of torque and plenty of horsepower. I will be keeping this cam when I switch to ported Trickflow heads later this year.

BTW- this cam works great on my unported factory heads.

I to have this cam in my car. I have some GTP heads w/ it. I had the LT4 hot cam at first. I really love the idle, and the cam does have power. I do agree that gears and a good tune are vital.

I don't regret the cam at all!

Re: 306 cam users?

I daily drive my 306 (on a 112). To be quite honest the ONLY reason I got this cam was because I got it cheap. If I was buying brand new I would DEFINATELY go custom grind. But as far as driveability, I have an excellent tuner that works in house at my shop. And my car is as smooth as silk. Its a full weight, a/c, t-56 with 3.42s, lt's and slp 20tl. I have absolutely no complaints for what I have in my car and for the way it runs. Sounds awesome, pulls great even for the stock 135k lower end. All I did to the heads was install new springs, and seals and a resurface. I average 19 around town and so far got a best of 24 on the hwy. Hell I still have the stock clutch in it. I'm not sure what the car weighs (97 hardtop SS) but I haven't done anything to lower the weight (and don't plan too). I achieved what I wanted. A sick sounding, well running car that is decent on gas and I am not afraid to drive to both ends of the country. Rain or snow doesn't matter.

Re: 306 cam users?

Mine is lopey but nothing crazy. Probably as big as I would like for a daily driver. Maybe with 4.10's I could handle more. I've got 3.42's.

Re: 306 cam users?

cc306 is great but in a stock car, it's not making the power it should, a bit smaller cam would probably make even more power. The reason is if you are pushing so much that your heads can't handle, your actually loosing power, but it will deffinantly give you torque.

if you think you can offer a better price for the time and energy involved and offer the same quality work that lloyd can for a better price, perhaps your time might be better spent advertising your craftmanship than exploiting someone elses prices for quality work. yes he ports your stock heads. and i'm sorry if i come off rude here, as i'm sure you didnt intentionally intend to offend anyone. on this site, the majority of us respect the time and work that LE puts into our slowly outdating motors. perhaps if you do some research on his products, you might find that the majority of the people have high opinions of the final product that we all receive from LE. sometimes you get what you pay for. in this instance, i would certainly believe that. good luck getting the same quality work and parts from your local porter that charges you half the price. jmho.

i understand it was just a question. sorry to go off, probably wasnt in a good mood at the time. but you also made the point of stating that if its just your heads that you send in, that it seems a bit pricey. the point i was trying to make was that its not that pricey in comparison to the product recieved nor to other porters prices at LE's level.
