30 over v.s. 40 over

hey, having a 355 done for me, shop called yesterday, they finished w/ my block and are ready for me to pick it up,,
eagle crank, eagle 6" h beams, j & e pistons.
he was going to bore it 30 over, he said i did it 40 over to get the compression we needed,,,will it still be 355 cubic inches,,? either way, where am i picking up my extra cubes?? longer rods?

it would be a 355 if you had it done 30 over. So with 40 over it will have more cubes. I don't think you will pick up extra cubes from the rods because the pistons would be made for the 6" rods.

I am pretty sure with 40 over it will be a 357-358. There are online calculators where you can find out exactly what it will be.

unless you are a class racer needing every little tenth of a point of compression, just bore it enough to clean it up so youll have room for a rebuild later.
