A friend of mine had given me a set of headers and told me they would fit my lt1....What would be the simplest way to tell this is true?
Also, my car is stock and my father had told me that by putting headers on, i wouldnt see much of a gain untill i did alot of work, so would it be worth it to put these on now (if they fit) or just wait untill I can afford to do more?
One last thing. I know this question has bee debated, but what exhaust system would give me the rich, deep, rumble of a great running v8?

Question 1: Best way to determine that would be to hopefully find a part number on them so that you can verify that they will fit and are designed for the LT1, a quick way that you could use to totally rule them out is to look at the primaries. If they are D shaped then there is at least a possibility that they will work if not then they aren't designed for your car

Question 2: Even with minimal modifications one of the best things you can do for a car is to improve it's airflow both in and out of the engine. Alot of the gain will be determined by what type of header they are but there should be a somewhat noticable difference.

Question 3: This is totally based on personal preference.

1) the best bet is to ask your friend what brand and part number they are.
2) Headers, gears, and stall (if auto) will give the best gains for the buck.
3) As Bowtie Z28 said, it is a matter of personal preference. I have a Magnaflow and love it. Had the blowmaster and my ears would ring after driving the car for 20 min. Plus the car seems to run 10X better with the Magnaflow. There is a sound file page on LS1Tech - I don't remeber where. Maybe someone here can provide the link.

1. If they are D port shaped then most likely they will fit an LT1. Find out the part number if possible
2. It depends on which headers you are putting in. Longtubes you will see a very nice difference 15+ HP most likely. If they are shorty headers you prolly wont see as much but still an improvement over the stock pieces of crap
3. I am a big fan of magnaflow, it has a mellow muscle car tone at idle but screams at WOT
