Question 3 Cracked Lifters!!!!!!

For you all that have followed my post from the past 2 weeks, my problem was/is I had 3 lifters that were cracked, therefore sticking, which was causing the spring to "pop" every rotation. Im looking for some new roller lifters(set) and need to know what kind to get(not too expensice please), so can you help me out? Also, what the hell could cause these 3 lifters to crack like that?

Re: 3 Cracked Lifters!!!!!!

Their all cracked around the roller area are small hairline cracks, just expanding the diameter enough to make them stick. I'll see if I can take some pictures and post them today. What kind of lifters should I get to replace them?

Yea that is where they bust. I thought you were saying in the hyd part of the lifter body.
I have only seen 1 cracked at the roller end on the forks that mount the brg and thought it was just a bad roller since production.

Thats good to know and another thing to keep an eye out for.
Are you running a bunch of spring pressure? Have the rockers been run loose for a good period of time?

Re: 3 Cracked Lifters!!!!!!

Crane, Comp, and Dana make good OEM replacements if that's what you're looking for. LPE uses the Dana ones in their builds, so they can't be that bad...

Re: 3 Cracked Lifters!!!!!!

Update!!! Well I replaced all 16 lifters(Melling), put my MAC headers on (still waiting on my Y pipe), put everything back together except the Belt, Altenator and Coolant and fired her up last night. It was loud as hell with open headers, but I'll be damned if it still wasnt clacking, just like before. I dont understand what it could be now unless its something broke in the bottom half of the engine that possibly cracked the lifters the 1st time. You guys have any ideas?

Re: 3 Cracked Lifters!!!!!!

Maybe your timing is off or your valves aren't adjusted properly and one or more of your valves is striking a piston, exerting undue force on the lifter?
