3.8 Cola Cranks 388 stroker

So ive been thinking about going wiht a 388 stroker instead of the dreaded 396 or the too common 383. I was thinking about going wiht a cola 3.8" stroke. I havent found another company that makes a 3.8" stroke.

I found one Here but i dont like to buy car parts off eBay.

Tell me what you guys think?

Im just curious but where do you get pistons for something like that? What size rods does that work with?

yes cola makes that crank ive seen them on ebay as well. but i called cola and they said they would sell me one for 600. you can use 5.7 or 6.0 rods.

and you can use a off the self piston as well as long as your block has not already been decked.

search in the advance section for cola and ther is a long thread with part numbers and pistons that your able to use.

by the way im using this crank as well and lunati 6.0 rods and je pistons and the pistons will probably be a compresion hieght of 1.125 or 1.120 the 1.120 will put the piston .005 in the hole and the 1.125 piston will put me a zero deck. the use of 6" rods will yeild a little more torqe.

why are you steering from a 383 or 396? dont get me wrong diffrent is cool but at the same time what do you feel is the benefit of a 388 with an odd ball crank is?

less clearancing issues than a 396 and a few more cubes than a 383.

It's just something different. Order the 3.5" stroke and go .030 over for a 357. That's different.

BTW, that's the crank GM uses in their HT383 crate engine. 4.00 bore plus 3.8" stroke.

Re: 3.8 Cola Cranks 388 stroker

you still have to grind the block. you pay the same to grind for a 383 as a 396 so cost is not a factor. i might be wrong because this is off the top of my head but a 3.75 crank with a 30 over is a 383 so if you went with a 40 over you could get some extra cube or a 50 or 60 up to 90. a arm growing out you *** would be diffrent and you can say it is diffrent what are the gains? you limit crank options and a few cubes you can pick up in bore of cut you self short of longer stroke.

In general, be careful about going more than 30 over on a production (stock) block. Makes for thin cylinders which degrades the ring seal and costs hp. In the extreme case it can lead to outright failure (splitting) of the cylinder.

If you buy the cranks posted by Barlex you're getting the best deal in town. These are all first line parts made by Cola Crankshafts , the same as supplied to GM.
