383 strocker: what cam to use?

Hey all,

I'm about to get my block back from the machine shop fully assembled w/:

Eagle forged strocker crank (0.030" overbore)
Eagle forged 6" h-beam rods
SRP forged 16cc dish pistons
Clevite 77-H race bearings (main, rod, and cam)

The main thing that is missing it the cam. I'm looking for something that will put down the most power but be very streetable and driveable. The less lope the better.

BTW I'm getting my heads ported by Lloyd Elliott as well

Thx in advance.

Then you might as well get the LE2 cam. That would be your best bet.

I would actually vote for the 977 spring upgrade, Comp Rs and the LE3 for going in a 383. But it really depends on how high you want to turn it.

Grip...where is your car peaking with the LE2 in the 383?

What are the specs of the LE2 and LE3?

I am running the GM 847 cam, it runs good, but some event tweaking would make it scream even more. (most notably lobe sep)

Yeah can you give me some more info? I assume this is the cam you have with your stroker? How is the idle lope? How is the drivability. And finally, have you had your setup dynod?

P.S. Can someone guestimate what my RWHP might be? I hope over 400.

Re: 383 strocker: what cam to use?

OMG I just realized I typed "strocker" instead of stroker JEEZ.

Anyway, I just got flow #s from Lloyd:

.2 136/104
.3 192/147
.4 241/171
.5 266/184
.6 270/192

The heads are on their way back. I can't wait!!!!

Lloyd actually recommended the cc306 cam, and I probably going to go with it.

In addition, I just got my block back from the shop. OMG it looks BRAND NEW, so clean with brand new internals. I'm taking two weeks off starting this Monday to put everything back together.

Definitely post your results when you get it all in and tuned. I will literally have your exact setup however with the LE2 cam. The engine is coming out today, and parts will be here within a week or so.

My heads on my old motor had about the same flow numbers. I went with the cc306 and ended up putting 422hp and 436tq to the wheels. I would use the 306. If you are interested I have a cc306 forsale that I only used for 1500 miles because i went to a solid roller set-up.

Thanks Jason
eBay, from SuperEngineBuilders (forgot their e-bay name) for $1600 free ship plus $75 for the L19 bolts. The shop charged me a total of $1700 for clearance, hottank, assembly, overbore (using plates), and random parts, etc.

Re: 383 strocker: what cam to use?

What are the specs for the LE2 and LE3 cams? What does the LE stand for? Lloyd Elliot? Sorry, been away for a month or so, and I have now need to catch up to the lingo.

Re: 383 strocker: what cam to use?

You get the specs on those cams when you pay for them. The LE2 is roughly the size of the 847, but will make more overall tq plus more peak hp. The LE3 is getting to be very large, so large it requires the comp 977 spring kit and Comp R lifters.

EDIT: yes, LE stands for Lloyd Elliot. The cams are custom ground to match his heads by Joe Overton.
