3.73s on a4, good idea?

well I am thinking about going with some 3.73s in my ta. It is my daily driver and I am a little bit concerned about what kind of gas mileage I will get with them. Plus, how am I going to go about getting the speedometer reset with the new gears? Any suggestions ?

3.73s aren't bad in an A4, I have had them in my 93 Z28 for two years. Get pretty good MPG. To reset the speedo for a 93 you need to gears to put in the tranny (forget the part numbers, will look them up). BTW, the speedo is only off by about 5mph anyway.

I love mine. On a basically stock car they make it very fun.

hmm, sounds like I should do them then. I hear the mpg is comparable to 342s. If the speedo is only off by 5mph then that is no big deal, I was just wondering about that because my brothers 5.0 has 3.73s and the speedo is way off, it says like 80 when your doing like 50, but then it is a different car too.

They really didn't impact my mileage as bad as I thought they would. To be honest though, I didn't care if they did.

They're pretty fun, but I think 3.42's would've been a better 'all around' gear for me. Not that I'm complaining when I've got a clear road in front of me and the light turns green

I hate mine they may be fine for a stock car but when you mod it you will have serious traction issues. I'd go for 342s

they are a really good gear for an A4. the 3.73's are what a lot of the people here do with the auto. It won't affect the speedo much like someone said but then again your miles will also rack up a little faster.

I have had 3.73s in my 94 for like 5 years . I love them but yes if mod the car some you will have traction issues.
I had to put alot of suspension mods on the car to get some semblance of traction.
Just had BMR relocation brackets welded in sunday.
