You talkin' about assembly lube or first initial oil fill after assembly?

I used this stuff called Powerpunch when putting my bike back together. I think it's an oil additive, but I don't use it that way. I used it to coat all my parts before installing them. This stuff is so thick it's stringy and sticky. It's thicker than gear oil. You actually have to wash your hands several times to get it off.

No, what oil weight to use on the cam for install. I guess I didn't really specify at first.

Well, I've witnessed many shops using assembly lube on the lobes.

You can also use GM EOS (engine oil supplement). It's
the GM recommended assembly lube for roller cams.

I've always used 80-90w gear oil, and have never had a problem. One motor that I built using this method has almost 45,000 hard driven miles. My LT-1 is on an engine stand right now, and I plan on building it up the exact same way.

By they way, if you are still using the original cam bearings, don't use any graphite based assembly lubes. The have little grits in them that are used to promote a good cam wear pattern in new bearings, but they chew up old bearings.

I used this from NAPA. It stayed on the cam even after a few week and did not dripped off.

Does the stuff have fine grit in it like other cam lubes?

Another vote for 90W gear oil, I've always used it with no problems.
