Cool...I was considering 4.10s but then I'd probably have to replace the driveshaft which = money so I decided not to.

One thing is for certain....you want hurt the gears by taking it easy the first few hunderd miles and then changing the gear oil......that said the 3 heat cycle thing IS NOT BS.

Hey fellas...thanks for chimming in.
IrocManiac, I agree with you.
The added expense of 4.10 gears helped to steer me towards 3.73s. I haven't put my foot in the car yet, but I'm expecting that the 3.73s will keep me in my powerband longer without hitting the rev limiter so quickly. (rev limit set a 6400 rpm)
Hopefully, I can get some Jett Hott LTs next year. Then...I will FINALLY be done modding the car .

SURE you will.

I will be getting 3.73's also, switching from my 3.42's. Don't want 4.10's since I do alot of driving at 80 mph or so. Glad to hear your's made a nice difference.

What do you have done to your car to be wanting to rev to 6400rpm???

Ha Ha ,
I'm for real yall. After the LTs, I'm done. I've got a little girl that I've got to start really fucosing on setting funds aside for. . She turned 1 yr old Saturday. (The wife don't know I've done all this--she knows that I've done something to the car, but not to this extent).
Oh, my cam makes peak power around 62k-63k rpm. (I can't find the dyno sheet right now). But the car seems to pull strong all the way to rpm shutoff. Not to mention, I'm still on a stock bottom end, so I want to keep the shift points down. I actually try to shift a 63K rpm.
Now I've got to find out what's making this 5.2-5.3 stumble. I didn't know I had one until I dynoed the car.

Take care everyone.

Tim

I had 4.10 in my 97 taws6 and they rocked but the car was slower in the quarter with street tires since you couldn't hook them up.It was fun around town though and makes sixth useable. They weren't too much..but they standard rule is if you putting on a big poweradder like heads/cam /headers or super or nos kit then 3.73 is about perfect. The lt1 does have good torque down low so 3.73 would be still be good too and I think gm should have put them all out with 3.73 gears,4.10 as optional.

On my 99 I have had bad luck with gears..first motive gm that were quiet on my 97 were super whiney on my 99 after double and triple checking still not sure why..tried 3.73 richmonds and they were also so loud had to take them out and did the 500 mile cool and heat thing both.I went back to quiet but boring 3.42 and the ls1 can really use 4.10 gears its weak down low around town.
even with a few mods like mine. But likely go back to 3.73 as got nos and hopefully getting heads too. And guess some drag radials for daily driving like nittos when my back firehawks give up the ghost..which won't be much longer with current and planned mods.
