Thumbs up 3.42 to 3.73 on 6M...I can tell a difference

Hey Fellas,
I just got the car back today. I went from stock 3.42 to Motive 3.73. The gears DON'T whine at all and there are NO vibrations.
I have zexal torsen. I didn't need a paddle kit for those of you that have also. I can DEFINATELY feel a difference from my stockers. Gaining 30 ft/lbs of torque at the rear will put a on your face.
The car is so much easier to drive now, cruising around town is "fun" again.
In my application....I think the 4:10s would have been a little to much. Now I've got to send the pcm off to get it programmed for the gears. Overall I'm happy...Now if I can fix my ignition grimlins.
What are the recommended break-in procedures?

Thanks,

Tim

Go easy on them for the first 500 miles or so, change the fluid and your good to go.

4.10's arent too much.

drive (not too hard) for 200 miles, drop rear fluid, replace 90W

yeah, 3.73s are noticeable on LT1 M6, i need new rear tires to stop em spinning

I dis-agree, its not like breaking in an engine, i was told by the techs at thunder racing and my own mechanic that did the install
of my gears that the break in period consist of of 3 runs.

drive the car for 30 minutes get it good and warmed and let it completely cool down do that 3 times and you will have broken in the gear proper.

Above POST is BS
For next 500 Miles do on/Off drive. Drive for 20min let them cool down. Then Drive !
Do change the Fluid after 500Miles
You will get the best out of it!

Avoiding childish ranting....glad to here you like your 3.73's. I have a 3.73's and the paddle for my take-off torsen needed to be ground. I think the 3.73's were GM gears.

Thanks for the advice fellas.
I don't drive the car as much since I got a beater truck now. I will take everyone's replies into consideration. I'll definately change the rear at 500 miles and put some fresh Amsoil in there.

Take Care

Tim

There's no facts about it. You're just stating the opinion of another mechanic. Here's what randy has to say...
http://randysringandpinion.com/tech/techg0698.html

It's not a another person's fact it's an opinion-get a dictionary. There are many different ways to break gears in and Randy's is the most accepted one.

IT IS A FACT................... call Thunder racing and talke to their techs, my mechcanic just agreed with their break period,I guess different gear & techs might have there own way of breaking in rear ends.

heres there site.............thunderracing.com
phone #1-225-754-7223

I read randy's break in period and says stock vehicals selmdom burn up the gear sets, the break in period your talking about
is for trucks, you should read it alittle bit better.

he's also saying what I was talking about , getting the gear warmed and then letting cool down. don't know what your problem is?

I don't doubt that they said it, but it is their opinion.

Cool

That's good to know.

Just had my second flat in a week on passenger rear tire.

First time was easy putting donut on front tire and switching front tire to rear to drive for repair since I was in driveway.

Second time sucked since it was in late night on expressway I opted to leave donut on rear and drive the 60 miles home at 40mph or less with flashers on which made alot of drivers behind me and merging onto expressway real happy.

Listening to the rear I was thinking the whole way home - might be time to switch rear end if I blow the posi because of drive.

I always subscribed to rule of thumb for 500 mis easy driving on any mechanical modification with an applicable fluid change and then back to normal driving or track.

I'm glad you could tell a difference...I'd always assumed there wouldnt be much...but my cars been in the shop and I've gotta get a new housing and gearset anyways so they're gonna throw in some 3.73s instead of the 3.42s.
