At WOT my car will sometimes dance the needle on the redline and not shift into third. what causes this? It only does it sometimes?

Sounds to me like typical 4L60E clutch slippage. In other words clutches are wearing out and its getting time for a tranny rebuild. Its will start as occasional banging the limiter on the 2-3 then youll bang the limiter all the time on the 2-3 then youll start loosing 1-2 at WOT and its all down hill from there.

 

3-4 clutches are on their way out.

I had a feeling that is what was going down!! awww damn!!! you mean it is time to build it to handle like 500 rwhp, and a 3200 vig stall? who sells a good rebuild kit that will make the tranny able to handle 400-500 horsepower??? and how much?

mines went out 3 times as of now, so dont feel bad, first time 1st changed to reverse you name it, it was ****ed. so i went to northcutts bought the 3 yr 50kmile warrenty tranny for 1244, people that installed it must have screwed me over cause it only lasted 7k miles new tranny in my car now.

My tranny used to occasionally bang the limiter on the 2-3 shift, but I drained the Mobil 1 trans fluid and put some Valvoline Maxxlife in and it hasn't acted up since. Perhaps the fluid is only a band aid for a larger problem, but it's working for now.
