2 Piece rear main seal crank in LT-1
2 Piece rear main seal crank in LT-1
Since I already have the 2 piece crank, using an adapter, will I run into any problems with the fitment of the flexplate or the trans ?
Anyone actually done this ? I've searched, but not came up with anyone who actually has performed the swap.

i did it on a 87 TA. worked fine. i'm guessing you wouldn't have the problem. i have a 1pc to 2pc crank adapter for sale too. like 1000miles on it. $45 shipped. can get you pics if you want. thanks

Well, thats good news. I've got a Billet Sony Bryant crank doing nothing and I need a new crank for my new motor...Put 2 and 2 together...lol
I'll maybe take you up on that offer. What brand is it ?

One of the Impala guys that goes by "quickSS" on here did this for the 383 in his car, it has worked out well for him seeing as he recently ran like 10.6 on a little juice, but memeory seems to say he said he would not do the 2 to 1 rear main thing again. Maybe he will see this or you could PM him. The most recent thread I saw him post in was the one about l19 rod bolts.
Re: 2 Piece rear main seal crank in LT-1
well i personally wouldn't either unless you have a crank like stated. the 1pcs are less likely to leak. but it a little leak is better than buying a new crank IMO :-D
Re: 2 Piece rear main seal crank in LT-1
Of course you'll need to replace the flex plate or flywheel to one that has the correct bolt pattern. Depending on application it may be very difficult. Example: 6 speed corvette c4 with the dual mass flywheel. There is no way to keep the dual mass flywheel when converting to the 2 piece crank.
Re: 2 Piece rear main seal crank in LT-1
Well, it's an automatic, so would the flex plate need to be changed ? I'm not worried about buying a new flex plate really. My main concern is going to be the fitment between the engine, stall, and trans.

Re: 2 Piece rear main seal crank in LT-1
Fitment shouldn't be and issue. Just get a flexplate of the appropriate diameter (I believe there are two different sizes, you'll need the smaller one with 153 teeth on it), and bolt it up. The new flexplate should have the right bolt pattern (larger than the one piece) and have NO balance weight on it as the two piece cranks incorporate it into the mounting flange. Hope this helps!

Awesome, this is what i'm looking for
I'm debating on just rebuilding my stock bttom end and using the billet crank in a more strenuous environment.
I've got enough parts to build a good LT-1... Argh, decisions !!
