2.02/1.60 valve seats in stock LT1 heads??

Hi,

I was wandering if it is possible to install 2.02/1.60 valve seats into stock (but extensivly ported) LT1 heads. I have called many supposidly reputible machine shops and all they wanted to do is regrind the stock valve seats for 2.00 inch valves. But I dont see the point in doing this because you arnt incrasing the throat size of the seat and not gaining any more flow from the heads. All you are dont is making the face of the valve larger and making the valve train heavier. But my main question is can this be done and if so can i use the 2.02/1.60 seats and run 2.00/1.57 or 1.56 valves in these seats to eliminate any interferance between the valves themselves. I think the outside diameter of the valve seats might be to large to fit in the chamber but also can the OD of the seat be machined down to fit in the stock seat location. Sorry for so many different question, Ive been at work all night thinking about this and what I can do to get more flow out of my heads. Thanks a million for you help and info.

2.02 valves

I did a ton of research on this! From what I can understand, the stock seats will accept a 2.00/1.57 valve. Some shops don't recommend even putting in a 2.00 inch valve at all (Kendrick Auto). They claim that it is a bit tricky to reshape the pocket to actually get more flow from a larger valve. Other shops like Heads Up in Dayton, OH (who did the heads for the 330 hp stocker record holder Woodrow Josie) take a 2.00 in valve and cut it down to 1.96 and stick it in there so the valve will sit higher on the seat. They did not see any noticeble difference by going to the 2.00 in valve. To put a 2.02 valve in will require new seats. You will see a hp improvement here only because the cutter has to go in and remove material in the pocket - not because of the valve size. I was also told by heads up that the cast iron LT1 heads can go to a 2.02/1.6 valve without removing the seats. There you go my friend!

Did they open the throat of the valve seat?
