1pc rear main to 2pc

Was looking arouns on the internet and stumbled onto this http://www.jegs.com/i/Moroso/710/38415/10002/-1. Was wondering if anyone has used this or swapped to a 2pc rear main seal. Besides being able to use the cranks and oil pans for 2 pc rear main seals, and have personally been able to find 2pc cranks for cheaper than 1pc ones, what would be the pros to this?

We've used them a few times and they work just fine. There's a version for the early pans, and one that uses the full round pan. You need to use the alignment pilot/jig that's bought separately for $30

The advantage is being able to use race cranks not available for a full round rear seal in your late model block.

Be careful with the 2pc cranks that you get one thats internal balanced. The lt1 is internal balance in the front and external in the rear. As far as I know there are not external balance dampers for the lt1 on anyones shelf. A lot of times the cranks you see cheaper are full external balance is why I mentioned that.

I have the two piece conversion from Canton on my block as my builder (over 10 years ago) was a circle track builder and prefered the two piece seal. They work just find and are relatively easy to replace, however you have to drop the rear of the pan versius pulling the tranny. IMO pulling the tranny is much easier as on my car I have the canton race pan it's a pain to drop it slightly as you have to raise the motor significantly. Here is a pic of the motor being built with the adaptor for the two peice seal.
