1LE driveshaft Question

I cam accross this thread while i was doing a lil research. http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...veshaft+weight

In there Bunker says that the 1LE shaft is only 2.75" diameter vs 3.5" for the LS1. Is that correct?

If so I think i was sold a LS1 driveshaft and not the 1LE. No big deal, but now i'm curious as to what is on my car.

If anyone has any pictures, dimensions (diameter, wall thickness, length), or weight specification for each please post them here so i can fool around with some calculations.

Thanks in advance,
brent

My LS1 d/s is 3" diameter. Was there a part number on the d/s?

The 1Le shaft will have Spicer joints on it and say spicer on the shaft.

I had the LS1 then got a 1LE, the most obvious difference between them was in the end caps as he mentioned. The Spicer u-joints on the 1LE are pretty obvious, they look much stronger than the LS1's and have the Spicer name on them.

Just FYI.

The 1LE has a thicker wall so its stronger than the LS1.

I just made my little brother go out and measure it since its in a garage 154 miles away.

He says its 3" around exactly so i guess i got an LS1. He didn't check the Ujoints or anything because he was bitching that my car was too low to get under as it is, he he. If the 1LE is infact 2.75" then by elimination its definitly an LS1 DS.

Yes i know the 1LE is supposed to be stronger, which is why i'm slightly bummed. I bought the Al driveshaft AND complete rear end for 125 or 150 bucks total so it was still a good deal, but it was definitly misrepresented as a 1LE driveshaft and i never checked until now. My inclination is still to trust the guy who sold it to me so I guess it could have been an honest mistake that that guy got hosed too.
