1997 z28 egr valve replacement need help
I have a 97 z28 engine light code for egr I bought a new one but can not get one of the nuts off to replace. tryed every wrench I have. Do I need to take off fuel rails to get at inside bolt? If so can I do it by just taking off 4 bolts from rails? Will I get enough m,ovement to get feul lines out of the way to get at nut? Or do I have to remove them completely? How hard is it to get fuel rails on and off and will removal mess with anything? I hear theres a tool needed for removal how does it work if thats what I need to do? HOpe that I can move rails enough just with bolts??? Help Thanks Paul

You should be able to reach both studs, without disassembling anything. The "inside" nut may have to be done by feel, using a 1/2" box wrench.
In the event you want to pull the fuel rails, you have to pull the harness clip out of the one rail, and push the harness back under the firewall. Then release the metal clip on the rear drivers side last manifold bolt, the holds the two hard fuel lines. If you think the nut for the EGR valve is difficult to reach, wait until you see the torx screw head on the bracket.... its facing downward. Now you need to disconnect all the injector harness clips, and remove the four bolts that hold the rails to the manifold. Those four bolts are very fragile... you may break on off. Once the bolts are out, clean out the dirt around the injectors in the manifold. Then stand on one side of the engine, reach across the manifold and pull up hard on the opposite side rail, hoping the 4 injectors will pop out. If they don't, you may need a lever of some sort. Then pull up the other side. Make sure the O-rings come out of the manifold with each injector.
Once loose, the rails can be put off to the side. May need to release the circular clip that holds the fuel line bundle to the throttle body cover.

You may not be able to see what you are doing, but by feel it should be relatively easy and there is nothing that should block access to the nuts with a wrench.

Use the force young Skywalker.....
Seriously though, you should be able to do it by feel as the others said. Just be sure that you are loosing the correct direction....it will be reversed standing in front of it. You may have to softly tap the valve with a soft face hammer to break it loose from it's gasket after getting the nuts off.
