1997 T/A LT1 has me stumped!!!
I've got a 97 trans am, lt1 with 54,000 miles on it....and heres the problem....
the car starts, idles for about 2 seconds, then dies...the fan comes on runs for about 10 seconds, then shuts off until i crank it again
when i jump it from another vehicle, it runs fine all day
it has a new mass air flow...so its not that
this happens alot of moist mornings too....
but it runs just fine once we get it going.
does this sound like a battery problem?
possibly the fan sucking the juice from the battery, and not enough getting delivered to the fuel pump???

Re: 1997 T/A LT1 has me stumped!!!
The first problem I have is this sentence.
The first thing to check is the battery voltage when cranking the engine. Should not drop below 11 volts. Then if the engine can run on it's own, check the voltage across the battery to see that it is 14 volts.
Depending on what you find if you check those 2 items will determine what has to be done next. I caution you not to jump to conclusions since something as simple as a poor connection can cause either one of those tests to show up bad.
