If you want cheap and loud, get a cutout and get it welded in. What sounds loud and way better imo, is headers, off road y -pipe ( no cats ) and a good catback. Istarted with the first and now run the second. I first got the headers and it sounded a little better, but when the cats went bye - bye is when it really woke up!

How's everything up at T-Town? I'm from OKC. Anyway being from OK you don't have to worry about the CATs and emission issues. So, I recommend a good brand of long tube headers (also a big performance upgrade) and Y-Pipe w/o CATs. You'll also need to get the rear O2 sensors programmed out, or use simulators. Then you could add a good CAT-back system (from Y-Pipe back) later.

I could have made my exhaust to sound louder. I stuck with the stock SS muffler (96-97) with the mid length headers. I think it sounds bad azz and its def. not obnoxious.
- I would say do some nice headers, with a relatively mild exhaust muffler.

I noticed you're from Long Island the home of Kooks headers, which are some of the very best LT1/4 headers on the market. I have Kooks headers and really like them! I also visited the Kooks plant while I was working on Long Island in 2004.

You could still reap the benefits of having headers and a better flowing y-pipe. If you stick with a tamer catback like the Magnaflow, you can have a well performing system, but still not be very noisy.

I'm running:

Hooker Super Comp LT's
Mufflex Off Road Y-Pipe
No Cats
Borla w/ Cutout

Here is a clip of some racing, I'm the Green T/A. Sounds bad *** with the cut out open. With it closed, it's tame enough for long trips. My 16 month old sleeping in the back seat.
