1997 Camaro Z28 nightmare Help read my story.

Ok so I had no time to replace my engine so I took it to a shop in wellington witch is in west palm beach Fl.

Now to make a bad thing worse.
I could not pick up my car yesterday due to things beond my controle.

I told him if the car has any dmange to it he won't see it and onec it leaves the shop I loose all my right's.
Now I get home from a long ride in the back seat of my friends firebird after 5 hours.
tired as hell its 5:30 am.
I get out and check out my baby my second love of my life.
You know what I'm talking about?
start her up sounds good runs good exaust sound softer.
but ok.
I take it around the block put my foot into the gas.
Dam runs as good as the other if not better.
But waite the transmission is not shifting right.
then I'm stoped and I'm reving it a little in nutral and I'm hearing some rataling from under the cowl.
SO I went to sleep got up this morning to hell.
The car had (dex cool in it ) now it's goot the (green **** in it)
you all know that you can't mix them! right!
Then there are green staines all over the engine and the engine carpment.
yaw know the red box where the bat hooks up to? the lid is gone.
the car won't track straight.
I don't know if I sould hit a bar that might make things wrose.
or go to the hospatial and get something to relax me before I have a heart a tak.
I guess I have to get a layer on monday.
man I payed for this with my blood money.
from An accident I had I got this money and used it to fix the car.
And this is what happend to me.

Wow...that guy is taking you for a ride. He's gonna put his kid through college on your tab, and he's not even a good mechanic (judging from your info). Time to find a new garage, or better yet, learn how to do basic repair yourself.

hey man you need to start hanging around with the local guys here in your area. Several of us have plenty of knowledge about our LT1 Camaro's and if we can't help you fix it, we can at least recommend reputable people in the area that will not rob you. Check us out at PBFbody.com. Come out to the track or try to meet up with us. We meet at the corner of Okeechobee and Jog every sunday night around 7:30......

Yea well I can do anything to my car just had no time was in a bind.
And I posted here for a week asking on how to get the engine out of the bottom of the car.
No one could give me a straight answer so after wasting a week I just ran out of time.
and Lost heart in working on the car because I was under alot of stress to get it done by the end of the week.
so much so that I had to go to the hosptail one night.

Thanks,
Chris G.

Re: 1997 Camaro Z28 nightmare Help read my story.

So today I go down to the shop to talk to the owner to see what he will do.
I tell him all the problems he tell's me to bring hime the car and he will fix it.
he also tell's me my old engine went to the junk yard
so he calles the junk yard up and they still have it.
go righ over to get it and it's missing my new alt, smog pump and the new blancer and my MSD wires!!!!
junk yard says thats the way we got it .
so while I was doing some runing around today he called my house and my mom told him what was missing.
he said he would check into it.
well my mom called hime back while I was still out and he said that he put the new alt on blancer and the smog pump and the ps pump too on the new used engine.
I did not tell him to replace the blancer!
so it looks like it has my old Alt on it but I will be damed if it charges like the new one. it charges great witch is great but what the heack is up with that.
and those alt are $100.00 bucks would be nice to have a spair.
he called up and said he put all that stuff on the new engine and got ride of the old stuff. why would some body do that without asking me first.
so now after he fixes the car he owes me a used alt new MSD wires used blancer used smog pump, old k member too thats gone too but that has dmage to it but I want to check it out that damage I knew about just did not see it .
o yea and my new opt spark cap is cracked so he owes me a new one of thise too.
So now tomarrow cince my nerves are shot I have to go to the doctor to see what he can do for me because I can't take any more (stress)
I learnd a leason I will fix my one car at all costs.
if I have to buy a car lift or lose my job. what ever it takes.
because the (HELL) I'm going through is (not worth it).

Any input anybody?
Thanks,

Chris G.

Lol.

On topic, I had a similar expierience with a Mitsubishi/Ford Dealership. I took my 1992 Twin Turbo 3000GT VR-4 in there to get a 60,000 miles tune up. Luckily i gave them a list of things i wanted done, and not to replace anything without my consent. They had my car for over a week until i finally called thema nd asked them what was up. They said they were waiting on parts... I asked him why they had kept my car for a week and not told me they didnt have parts, he said he didnt know... So they let me take it home for the weekend. I brought it back and they did al the work... in 3 days... and everything was fine. They charged me $1,100 for the timing belt, serpentine belts, tensioner coolant flush, and a few other things.

This all seemed normal. Drove it around and my cruise control wasnt working. I called them up and they said they had already ordered a new unit for $167 and would put it in when it got there.... I didnt ask them to do that. I decided to check it out for myself. Yep, they broke the vacuum nipple off of the modulator for the cruise control. I know it was them because it located right above the engine mount which has to be unhooked to tilt the motor to replace the timing belt. I told them no.

A week later i was driving down the highway and lost all shifting. It gradually went but eventually i lost everything. I was able to drive in 1st gear until it popped out of gear and i coasted to the shoulder. I didnt know what was wrong. I had it towed there where they replaced the shift linkage assembly for $226. Seemed a good deal to me.

Clutch went a few days later i replced this myself. I discovered the 'linkage' they replaced was a cotter pin that attached the linkage to the transmission. Easily replaced in 5 minutes.... dicks.

A couple months later I totalled my car. Decided to part it out and upon removing the engine someone wanted my tensioner. I start disassembling the engine to get to the new tensioner and find the tensioner was never adjusted when it was put on That belt could have slipped at any time and sent 24 valves into my pistons. It was that loose.

Moral of the story never go to dealers. I did have awsome luck with my local chevy dealer, only took it to them for a ball joint and alignment. Figured it was too much of a pain to do myself.

Anyway, i feel your pain man.

Thanks ShawnMacAnanny for sharing your story with me.
Makes me feel a little better.
As for my spelling just so everybody knows I have dyslexia.
And the only problem I have is I can't spell every word.
I can read any thing and if there is a word that I don't know I read the whole sentence and by doing so I can pretty much know what the word is or it's meaning.
So that explains my spelling ok Z95m6?
And I'm not trying to be rude to you at all.
In this world no body is perfect.
Perfection is in the eye of the beholder.
Plus I was very upset.
And I am going to the doctor tomarrow.

Any queston's or input let me know.

Thanks,
Chris G.

Well i'm sorry for my reply then Chris. I truely apologize. Its just particularly frustrating to read some peoples posts when they don't put any effort into spelling or punctuation. I know we aren't all perfect at spelling or punctuation but some people on here totally neglect it in their posts. I do want to apologize then for my post.
One thing i will add is that if you want to own these cars you need to learn to work on them. These cars aren't particularly reliable to begin with, and when you start modding them it gets worse. I can't believe some people pay to have heads, cams and other stuff installed. After you do those mods it seems like the cars need constant attention. I had a buddy that had only ever changed oil on a car before he bought his Z. After he got his car he read up on this forum and did all the mods himself. He has even done a cam swap, and is doing heads this winter. I would say its fairly easy to learn about these cars and how to work on them yourself. You will save money, learn a few things, and most importantly you will know if it was done right or not.

see www.michiganspeed.com/enginepull I took that article to my reluctant, nearby, reasonalbly priced shop, and he tried it. swapped engine/cradles between two 97 Z's for under $850 including some parts!! everyone else in area wanted $1500 just to drop one engine. I wish I had seen your request for info sooner.
