1996 smog/air pump
1996 smog/air pump
I have a 96 ss and I had a check engine light come on for the secondary air injection system. I replaced the a.i.r pump. The issue I have is the replacement air pump didn't have the pig tail attached to it that the original pump had. This pig tail is about 12-18 inches long and plugs into the silenoid. What goes to the silenoid off of the new air pump? There is a power wire that runs to a plug on the side of the pump. On this power wire there is a T and another wire that is capped off. Is there possibly a new design where this wire attaches to the silenoid instead of the old pigtail? This may be confusing but I'm sure someone out there has ran into this issue due to these pumps being faulty very often. Thanks for any help....
Re: 1996 smog/air pump
There was a factory recall on the air pump assembly. If memory serves me correctly you are describing the old pump design. The recall came with a new pump with the pig tail which connected to the solenoid that you also described. Return the pump and get the right one. Maybe someone else reading this knows the correct part number.
