Re: 1995 z28 proformace help

For 2Kish, I'd start with these:

Cold Air Intake
Long Tube Headers
Cat Back Exhaust

If you are fortunate enough to be in an area has no emissions testing, then you can scrap the AIR and EGR crap when you do the headers.

Get a custom tune when you are done and you should see a nice difference.

The above parts can be had at any number of places online and locally.

Try Summit, Jegs, etc.

Google will help you a lot here.

To help us help you, add a signature that shows your location and car info.

Good luck with the mods!

Re: 1995 z28 proformace help

The heads (porting your stock heads) and cam will net you 400+HP at the rear wheels, but you just used up your preferred $1,500 budget. To support the heads and cam, you would need the cold air intake, a 52mm throttle body, the exhaust upgrades mentioned above, larger fuel injectors and a tune. That's about double your budget, assuming you can do all the work yourself.

Then you need to upgrade the trans, get a high stall converter, a set of 3.73 gears. Then you need the suspension upgrades, subframe connectors, etc. to allow the chassis to handle the HP.

What Fred said above and the stock rear end will also be something to consider with any upgrade as they are one of the weakpoints even with no mods.

Re: 1995 z28 proformace help

You could go with a nitrous kit but still some supporting mods would be good. I ran a 125 shot on my stock car but had the rear end aready swapped to the dana 60 as I knew I would be having power.I also have ram air(so didnt need cai) and im pretty sure had so.e exhaust work too.Im not sure what you can do to the rear end cheaply but it would be worth asking about as would probably be worth the money unless you have future plans on a better choice and can preserve what you got til that time.

He has an automatic. Stock rear shouldn't be as big an issue as it would be with a manual trans and very sticky tires.
