1995 camaro exahust problem
1995 camaro exahust problem
I have and 1995 z28 camaro i just got done installing pacetter longtube headers. with and ORYP . i get the car back and the car is alot weaker with the headers. is it bc of that i have no catlatic coverter? with the back pressure and all?
Re: 1995 camaro exahust problem
If the engine is stock then you should go no bigger than 1 5/8 headers if you have the 1 3/4 inch headers then you will hardly get any back pressure at all. This is a common problem just wondering if this is the setup you have due to you not giving that much info. Also from 95 to 96 they went from single cats to dual so if you have no cat and three inch piping diameter or smaller then theres no problem. But you cant go more than 1 5/8 headers and 3in piping or you will have alot of blow buy exhaust with no buildup for back pressure. So good luck buddy.

Re: 1995 camaro exahust problem
the cars exahust is pasesetter longtube 1-3/4" to 3 in oryp goin in to and slp loudmouth 2 muffler. the car also has a bbk 52mm throttle body and 373 gear. the car is just not performing any better actually worse on performance with the longtube headers. the car had plenty of power befor and now its weaker. i dont understand it
Re: 1995 camaro exahust problem
The problem with large diameter primaries on a stock engine is not due to "back pressure". The problem is that the large diameter slows down the gas flow in the primary, which reduces scavenging at low engine loads, and may cause severe reversion, with exhaust gasses flowing back into the cylinder.
"Back pressure" is a myth, and you will not lose torque from reduced back pressure. But you may have issues with scavenging and reversion at low engine loads with oversize primaries. That's one of the reasons "step" primaries can be attractive.

Re: 1995 camaro exahust problem
yes the car has little exhaust leaks but they verry little. and when we put the headers on we changed the spark plugs just with basic (auto lites) it there a different plug i should run on my car? and all the wires are tied away from the headers.
Re: 1995 camaro exahust problem
I just put long tubes on my 95 Z w/loudmouth 2 with no cats. My headers are 1 5/8 w/ 3" y-pipe into the 2 1/2" exhaust. I do have a larger cam. My car picked up. I used NGK plugs. Only thing with my car after the install, I smell more exhaust gas. NGK plugs are great for me, I use them in my 1000 HP 69SS.
Re: 1995 camaro exahust problem
Fix the exhaust leaks first.
