1994 z28 does not start but "clicks" no security light

i know its been asked before but im stumped on this one

the car makes what seems like a bunch of clicking noises simaltaneously when i try to start it and does this over and over i replaced the batttery today with a brand new red top optima same thing, the fuel pump does prime and everything in the car works (power seat/accesories/locks etc) the noise seems to be coming from the right side by the glove compartment (which i believe is where the vats is? im not sure) i get no security light however.. if it is vats how would you fix that anyway? it seemed to happen all at once however this happened to me about a month ago but started after like 3 tries and then it happened again last week now this time it is stubborn and no matter what will not turn over.. thanks for the help guys

sounds like a bad connection or bad starter check and clean wires to the starter and bat. and if not that pull starter and have it tested

try giving the start a few taps with a hammer.

also might want to have the battery tested.

Jump the posts at the starter and see if it cranks.

Re: 1994 z28 does not start but "clicks" no security light

I believe i had/have this exact same problem. It was intermittent for awhile and then one day it wouldn't turn over anymore, just clicked, kept trying and finally something fried and no more clicking. I assumed starter solenoid and was wrong. Tested starter-it was good. Jumped it, got nothing. Finally had some people come over with a voltmeter and chase the volt current around, and it finally ended up under the passenger side dash.

I still don't know what the problem is (i "think" its the vats solenoid but i really don't know), but my solution (probably not recommended/smart) was to run a wire from the solenoid terminal and another from the battery to a fan switch on the inside that im not using, turn the key on and flip the switch to start it.

Hey, it starts the car. Good luck with it.
PS never had a security light. 93 z28 auto.

I have to do that to get mine to start every now and then...the damned silenoid always sticks...and for 70 bucks i would rather open the hood, pull out my bailing wire and jump it over the the purple starter wire that has just a small amout stripped off.

I am experiencing this right now and it's pissing me off!

when you say no security light, do you mean that it does not blink when you go to start it, or it does?

I have a feeling I killed a solenoid or starter when I attempted to jump start it the other day off my roomate's truck. I also just put in a new battery today, and the clicking from the glove box can be heard too. let me know if you figure it out, and vice-versa

also, can you jump a m6? If so, how?

By jump i assume you mean jumper the starter over to get it to start. Same as an a4 just touch the two termenals on the solenoid together....just make sure you dont touch your wrench or srewdriver on something metal, it make lots of sparks lol.

Another thing you can try is to have someone hold the key in the position to turn it over...while you tap on the starter solenoid. Btw have it on jack stands and make sure it is steady before you try this. Also if you have open headers, it will scare the **** out of you when it starts.

Or you could fork over the 70 bucks and buy a new soleniod or 230 or so for a new starter.
